The Client
VEUU
Who are they ? Veuu is an inclusive and sustainable FinTech ecosystem for healthcare and is the leader of adjudicating claims at discharge.
The Veuu ecosystem contains a suite of AI tools that automate, and de-risk known as codeVeuu, riskVeuu, payVeuu, and inVeuu. These tools automate the coding and financial risk associated with claims payments and denials so that providers can be paid the day that the patient leaves the hospital on a non-recourse basis.
When a healthcare provider provides healthcare services to a patient, they submit a claim to the patient’s insurance company for reimbursement. The insurance company then goes through a process called claims adjudication to decide whether or not to cover the claim.
The process of claims adjudication is a long and complex process that often requires both automatic and manual reviews to evaluate the medical claims to ensure that they are accurate, valid, and necessary
These reviews consist of verifying everything from basic information such as patient name, diagnosis codes, service codes to ensure required information isn’t missing to more detail

My Impact
Healthcare Claims - The Role of 837's and 835's
This claims process revolves around two different files, 837s, and 835s. These files can be understood as the bill and the receipt.
These are Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) files. EDI is the structured transmission of data between organizations by electronic means and dates back to the 1960s. Some uses include supply chain as well as healthcare.
An 835 is also known as Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA). It is the electronic transaction that provides claim payment information and documents the underlying payment.
Understanding The Market (User Research)
How can our current infrastructure & UI support VEUU's requirement
Proposed Solution ( High Level User Journey)
-
Modify our current UI ( RFP) Smart Contract, which is one of our current products on the Tassat Platform.
-
Integrate VEUU's current workflow into Tassat blockchain solution.
-
Build VEUU's own user experience. B2B solution of having a bespoke UI and login for VEUU/Payveu

Auditing our current UI
Our platform currently caters to banking and digital asset clients that I wanted to to alter as little as possible, therefore I wanted to make this product intuitive and not overly confusing. Our current UX consists of modals, transaction tables, transitional tabs and primary/secondary and tertiary buttons

Branding
Creating the User Interface
To potentially mitigate cognitive load and to maximize usability with our current infrastructure, I reused our components which allowed us to reduce development time. For our client, they chose to have a bespoke branding for their preference, therefore I added the "payveuu" logo instead of our Tassat Logo and kept the "powered by Tassat" as a
I considered principles of calm technology for the layout in adding the 837 Claims and 835 ERA's as data points in a modal. This follows how dense data is compacted into these tabs based on our current interface behavior .
I designed the 837 claim layout to showcase the main data points for a claim, this can contain up to 500 pages where as each billing code has several data elements attached to it, this is then connected to the 835 ERA tab as a downloadable excel file. This continuous flow helps to improve the user experience by promoting memory absorption and information retention.
Lastly as a result of rapid mock up and prototyping I included a button for the user to download the audit report which is also attached to the 837ERA. As a result, I created a visual approach by representing complex data sets and patterns based on this tab. I also adapted a heuristic approach by understanding who my user is and the data that they see on a daily basis and closely aligned to that for the sake of the real estate in this tab.

Refinement and next steps
Upon a comprehensive review of the platform's needs, my initial hypothesis was that the minimalist design to be integrated into our current platform could easily adapt to the new amount of information . Adopting a more organized and segmented approach became crucial to deal with such complex and deep data effectively.
These are some of the opportunities that I saught as apart of my refinement to achieve better results:
-
Users may be overwhelmed with the amount of data presented in the 835 ERA tab. My refinement here seeks to have them more focused on the data whilst reviewing it, so I moved the button to the outskirts of the modal and added a drop down button for the user to see data by date ranges.
-
I started to test the breakpoints for smaller and larger screens, so that the user can read the data throughly and immersively so that I could facilitate a smooth transition for future implementations.
Whilst this project was a new product for our platform , the focus on the user interface was to not get too carried away by implementing new design perks and ideas but to keep things minimalistic whereas it can be constantly updated and iterated. The platform is currently live and has been apart of the 2 trillion transaction amount.
